At Wheatfield Primary School, every child is valued as a unique individual and has the right to participate fully in all aspects of school life. We are committed to providing an inclusive environment where all pupils feel safe, supported and able to achieve their full potential.
We believe that every teacher is a teacher of every child, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Through high-quality teaching, adaptive practice and a strong culture of inclusion, we aim to remove barriers to learning and ensure that all pupils can access a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum.
Mr Craig Smith is the Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion and the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) at Wheatfield Primary School. He oversees SEND provision across the school and works closely with pupils, families, staff and external professionals to ensure that children receive the support they need to succeed.

Our aims
We aim to:
- Ensure all pupils have access to a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum.

How we support pupils with SEND
At Wheatfield Primary School, we recognise that high-quality teaching has the greatest impact on pupils' progress and achievement. We therefore invest in staff training, resources and ongoing professional development to ensure that all classrooms provide an inclusive learning environment.
Our Ordinarily Available Offer provides universal support for all learners through effective classroom practice, adaptive teaching strategies and high expectations. Please find the Early Years Ordinarily Available Provision here.
Where additional support is required, targeted interventions may be implemented to address identified needs. These interventions are carefully planned, monitored and reviewed to ensure they have a positive impact on pupil outcomes and do not create barriers to inclusion.
For some pupils, more personalised and specialist provision may be required. This support is additional to, or different from, the provision ordinarily available within the classroom and is planned through a Pupil Passport. Pupil Passports identify key strengths, needs, outcomes and provision and are developed collaboratively between the class teacher, SENDCo, parents/carers and, wherever appropriate, the pupil. They are reviewed regularly to evaluate progress and inform next steps.
The school works closely with a range of external professionals, including Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Learning Support Services, Health Services and other specialist agencies including local outreaches, to ensure that pupils receive the most appropriate support.
